At StoneLeaf Lamps, artisan Anna Spooner, juried member of the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council, creates functional home decor lighting and natural art forms with her original botanical lampshade designs on naturally sculpted stone bases from the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, Canada.

“Day after day you live with one of these lamps and slowly you become aware of the fine details of the stone base and the plants in the lampshade. Intricacies in the silhouette of the plant, its veins or the subtle changes of colour come to your attention. The stone base has subtle nuances of colours, lines and cracks. Having become consciously aware of these details you may begin to notice the details of nature in other parts of your life – how the sun shines through the leaves in the trees, the shadows the leaves cast, the details of the tree trunk’s texture and how the twigs criss-cross in the canopy. For Nova Scotia artist Anna Spooner, her creative instincts have been inspired by the natural beauty of her native land.  This has led her to craft one-of-a-kind sturdy stone base lamps using native Nova Scotia stones.  The stones are topped with handmade lamp shades adorned with flowers, leaves and other botanical treasures found on the Bay of Fundy.  

StoneLeaf Lamps celebrates the vigor and strength of nature while showcasing the fragility of life through the outlines of a simple flower, leaf or twig.  Although beautiful in their serenity and quiet adornment, the elements come alive when light casts their rebirth in silhouette.

“I enjoy creating lamps that allow people to bring nature inside.  It’s exciting for me to take a material that might otherwise wither and blow away, combine it with a sturdy stone, and turn it into something that becomes a show piece for the home.  It’s like giving nature a second life,” Anna says.
