Moving residences is enough to make even the most level-headed adults lose their cool. Now picture the stress of relocating through the eyes of a child. Adults running around frantically may seem amusing, but it can be a stressful situation for your kids as well.Perhaps the home you're moving from is the house your kids grew up in. Saying goodbye to memories in their first home is oftentimes the toughest part about moving for children.

Moving across the country, away from friends, family, and familiar surroundings, also adds to the psychological stress on your little ones.Believe it or not, you can make the experience of your moving day more fun for your kids with just a few, simple tips. Start preparing to get your child used to the idea of moving at about the same time that you begin your research for moving companies. Read on for some fun ways to get your kids more involved in the moving process, while maintaining their happiness throughout the relocation.Let your kids create a box of their most prized possessions. Set aside a cardboard box for every child in your household. Tell them that all of the stuff that they value the most can go into this one special box - baby blankies, stuffed animals, their favorite books, and so on.

To really make it creative, set up a painting station in your house and have your kids paint, cut, paste, and custom-design their box to their liking. Make sure that the box travels with your family, and that the movers don't load it onto the moving truck, so your kids know that their favorite things are always close by.Get a sturdy fabric bag, or even a strong garbage bag, for your kids. Explain that this bag will be full of fun activities, chosen by your children, that they can access whenever Mommy or Daddy are busy with their own moving chores. Let your kids stash whatever goodies they may want in this bag. Some ideas to add to the bag include building blocks, board games, handheld video game devices, clay, coloring books and crayons, picture books, etc. Having this bag around will be your saving grace when it comes time to hammer out the finer details of your relocation with the movers you hired.

Give your kids a child-friendly task to make them feel more included in the process of moving. Let them pack their own room with your assistance. Give them the chore of packing up their own bathroom as well, if they have one. Make them the guardian of the family pet who also needs to be looked after on moving day.Once the whole family has settled into the new house, host a big party, just for your kids. If you stayed local and merely changed residences in the same town, it's the perfect opportunity to let your kids introduce their new space to all of their friends. Moves across the state or across the country means that there are new friends to be made. Soon after your child has entered school or started participating in a local sports club, tell them that they are free to invite as many classmates and teammates as they want.

Make it a fantastic housewarming party your kids will always remember.By keeping your children involved in the moving process, you can lessen the impact of stress that your child will be feeling on moving day. Give them child-appropriate tasks and enjoy moving with a happy child when your big day arrives.
